This family just arrived today in the back of a truck from outside of Puno (an 8-hour drive), hoping to receive a cleft lip surgery before the team leaves. This little boy is being operated on right now
We have received many thank-you notes from the kids and families

A reminder of why we ask people to give so much of their time and money came to us on the last day of the mission. A family arrived from a pueblo outside of Puno. They had heard by word of mouth that there was a medical team from the United States in Arequipa for the week; they feared it might be too late, but took a chance; they hitched a ride at 10PM wednesday night from their home into Puno, then bought a ride in the back of a pickup truck to Arequipa. They arrived at 8AM Thursday morning. It was not too late. They were screened that morning, and were fit in to an already full half-day schedule.

The results of the surgery were amazing, and the family was so grateful that our team was able to help them. It was a memorable way to tie up a very busy, but very happy and rewarding week.

The hospital held a recognition event for us on Thursday afternoon, during which all team members were presented with certificates of appreciation and CSI was given a plaque in recognition of the group's efforts.

This team picture, including Peruvian administrators, doctors and nurses, was taken at the conclusion .
